The History of McCordsville

McCordsville was originally laid out by James W. Negley on September 11, 1865. It consisted of 35 lots.

The first addition was made February 11, 1869 by Jacob Hiday. It consisted of 28 lots.

The second addition was made May 21, 1873 by Nelson Bradley and Elias H. McCord. It consisted of 39 lots.

The third addition was made August 31, 1873 by Nelson Bradley. It consisted of 67 lots.

The fourth and last addition was made September 4, 1873 by William McCord. It consisted of 8 lots.

Gillum Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church was the first church in McCordsville. It was built in 1854 and cost 1,300 dollars. The church was dedicated by Rev. N. H. Gillum and named after its dedicator.

On June 25, 1902, the original chapel was destroyed when a storm passed through McCordsville. A new church was then erected in lots 4, 5, and 6 of the Bradley and McCord addition to the town. It was dedicated by Rev. W.D. Parr in 1902.
