The History of McCord's Place

Located at 6425 W. Broadway, McCordsville, IN 46055, the McCord's Place was constructed in 1870.

1870 - 1879
There is no real information on the house during this time. It is known that the house was built around the year 1870, but the exact date is unavailable. It is also unclear who the actual owner was of the house and property was at it's time of construction. McCord's Place was built on property in the Hiday addition of McCordsville.

1880 - 1889
McCord's Place is named after its earliest known owner, Jacob McCord, who owned it between 1886 and 1895.

1890 - 1899
After Jacob McCord, the house remained under McCord ownership when Rachel McCord acquired the house between 1891 and 1895. She remained in possession of the house until sometime between 1925 and 1929.

1928 - April 7, 1959
Jacob and Ada Chandler were the owners of the house between 1928 and 1959. Jacob Chandler was the postmaster in McCordsville during this time. The Chandlers had three daughters, Lois, Viola, and Betty. The Chandlers owned McCord's Place until April, 1959.

April 8, 1959 - April 27, 1962
McCord's Place was transferred exclusively to Ada Chandler on April 8, 1959. It remained in her possession until April 27, 1962.

April 28, 1962 - May 28, 1968
Dale and Lillian Griswald were the next owners of the house between April, 1962, and May, 1968.

May 29, 1968 - September 13, 1984
McCord's Place was bought by Orvis and Thelma Phillips on May 29, 1968. It exchanged hands frequently during this period, switching from the Phillips to Helen Call in 1970, Thelma and James Phillips on January 21, 1970, Thelma Phillips on August 11, 1975, and finally back to Orvis and Thelma Phillips in 1978. They remained in possession of the house until September, 1984.

September 14, 1984 - October 7, 1987
Gordon and Lana J. Williams received the house from the Phillips on September 14 1984. Some time between 1984 and 1987, the house transferred from joint ownership between Gordon and Lana Williams to sole ownership by Lana. She owned the McCord's Place until October 1987.

October 8, 1987 - October 20, 2003
Charles Ellis purchased McCord's Place from Lana J. Williams on October 8, 1987. He then added Jill Ellis to the title on November 9, 1992. This was the same date he transferred some of the property the house was located on to the State of Indiana. Charles Ellis was in possession of the house until October 2003.

October 21, 2003 - Present
Robert Olson purchased the House from Charles and Jill Ellis. Many renovations have been made to the house since its purchase. McCord's Place now acts as the head office of Input-Output Unlimited, Inc.
