Computer Forensics

Computer forensics is the application of the scientific method to digital media in order to establish factual information for judicial review1. In simpler terms, it is the use of a structured investigation to determine the details, facts, and cause of a computer-related incident.

Criminals, no matter how skilled, always leave evidence. Itís a matter of finding and extrapolating the evidence so that the path of the crime and, eventually, the criminal are discovered. This is easier said than done, though. Computer technology is ever-advancing, and criminals are finding newer and more ingenious way of committing crimes.

Professionals, trained and certified in the field of Computer Forensics, are required to investigate computer-related crime. The field itself is a recent branch of computer security and law enforcement.

Few companies can offer all the services required of the field. Input-Output Unlimited, Inc., is one of the few companies employing trained and certified Computer Forensics investigators and expert witnesses in the state of Indiana.
